1540 and Skin Renewal
In the year 1540, many notable events occurred. Francisco Vazquez de Coronado captures the site in modern-day New Mexico. Henry VIII married and later divorced his fourth wife in 6 months. He executed Thomas Cromwell and married his fifth wife on the same day. He also removed all of the abbeys. Hernando de Soto destroys the fortified village of Mabila in modern-day Alabama and killed chief Tuskaloosa. Pope Paul III recognized the Jesuits. These are just to name a few.
Fast forward to 2023 and 1540, in aesthetic terms, refers to a laser frequency that can be used for stretch marks, skin revitalization, and complexion blending. It can also be used after trauma or surgery once sutures are removed to lessen scars or to treat long-term scars as well. 1540 nanometers refers to the wavelength of the laser light which penetrates the skin to a certain depth to promote rejuvenation. It is a non-ablative fractional laser that strictly targets water in the skin and is safe to be used in all Fitzpatrick skin types.
With our specific brand of laser, there are two different hand pieces we can use; XF (extra fast) or XD (extra deep). The extra-fast handpiece focuses on superficial lines and wrinkles and works from the outside in. Whereas the extra deep handpiece is better for acne/surgical scars and deep wrinkles and works from the inside out. Treatments are usually scheduled 4 weeks apart, and one typically requires somewhere between 4-6 treatments with occasional maintenance plans depending on what we are treating. For those who partake in the use of fillers and injectables, we can perform laser treatments at least 2 weeks after Botox/Dysport or filler treatments.
Another popular treatment that utilizes our 1540 non-ablative laser is our “3 For Me”! In addition to the 1540 laser, we combine the added benefit of our Max G laser. The specific wavelength for our Max G handpiece targets blood and melanin and is used to treat both pigmented and vascular lesions. We can obtain about a 25-30% reduction of nasal vessels and a 50-60% improvement in rosacea sufferers. Combined with 1540, the results are amazing!!! Unfortunately, it is only recommended for treatment in Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV.
I doubt that King Henry VIII had time to visit his aesthetician regularly, but maybe his wives did?!!!
